Mock Shell Arch Command

I've successfully rebuilt Red Hat EL PHP 5.2.10 RPMs using mock on a CentOS 5.4 i386. I wanted to be able to build both x86_64 and i386 versions so I reinstalled my builder system with CentOS 5.4 x86_64. Now I can build the PHP RPM successful for x86_64, but i386 fails with the following during configure /usr/bin/net-snmp-config: line 43: net-snmp-config-x86_64: command not found For the commands I am using mock -r centos-5-x86_64 php-5.2.10-1.el5s2.src.rpm mock -r centos-5-i386 php-5.2.10-1.el5s2.src.rpm I went into the shell on the i386 build environment mock -r centos-5-i386 shell The contents of /usr/bin/net-snmp-config has arch=`arch` echo $arch | grep -q i.86 ...... if [ "$arch" = "x86_64" ] ; then net-snmp-config-x86_64 $* exit 0 fi When I run arch from the mock shell I get x86_64. Shouldn't it see the correct architecture inside of mock? I thought that was the point of mock so I could build both i386 and x86_64 versions on the same system. Thanks, Ryan

iostat on multipath disks

Hi Experts, How can I get info for my disks on multipath disks? I mean, usually I use 'iostat' for internal disks, however I need to know status of my multipathig devices, cause I'm monitoring stress test for my application.. Thank you for your responses. Regards,

Matlab vs. Octave

Upgrading to 2.6.32

I want to upgrade a 5.4 box with the 2.618 kernel to a shiny new 2.6.32 kernel. Anyone done it? Is it possible? Are there gotcha's to watch out for? Any advice is appreciated. A link to a decent howto would be awesome.

Software Protection on centos

Hi, I would like to have a software protection for my hardisk. I have some query regarding that (1) In Centos, is it possible to do a hardisk protection. Ex : Even if the hardisk is taken from a PC and used on another PC, it should not be executable. (2) Also if the entire binary of the source is mounted on a partition say /tmp, is it possible to make that mount point as protected, visible only after entering a password or similar to that. TCP Tuning/Apache question (possibly OT)

Hello All: I've been requested to add some TCP tuning parameters to some CentOS 5.4 systems. These tunings are for the TCP receive buffer windows: net.core.rmem_max net.core.wmem_max Information on this tuning is broadly available: http://fasterdata.es.net/TCP-tuning/linux.html http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=121 Potential downsides are available: http://www.29west.com/docs/THPM/udp-buffer-sizing.html >From the above, the rmem size is a function of the number of listening processes times the size of the receive buffer. Apache can initially create a bunch of server processes (StartServers directive, for example). In our environment we may spawn off 50 or more httpd listeners. Does each listener allocate its own buffer or is the parent process the only one? The tunable seems innocuous but I am concerned about the impact to memory given that there will be many listener processes. We are running fairly tight already and because these are virtual environments in a cluster, adding a meg or so per listener can equate to multiple gigs across all the machines in the virtual host cluster.

Dear All I need to schedule for a repeated task on my CentOS server, as the followings: -) Telnet to a remote node -) Issue a command -) Capture the output in a log -) Logout from Telnet -) Wait for a prescribed time interval -) Then redo , but append the subsequent output in just on file Can you please let me know which options do we have to write such a task? is it possible to resive /var online?

Hi all, Is it possible, safely, to resize /var while a server is running? I urgently need to resize a full 2GB /var on a running server which is located at a remote location where no one can get to it for 2 days? The system runs on lvm. I already moved /var/logs to it's own LVM partition but it didn't help at all so I think it's better to rather just resize it. Google searches suggest taking the server offline, or boot into single mode.
