Don't forget to use torrents for your downloads!

For those who may forget, usin torrents to download and share the new images will get you faster downloads (if enough folks participate) if you have a "fat" pipe and alleviate the load on the CentOS servers. I have a "chubby" pipe (~ 1.2MB/sec) and got the stuff really quickly earlier today. If your torrent has distributed hash table capability, I suggest that you also use that feature. eSATA drive enclosure of a full PC?

HI All, I have a dilemma and I would appreciate advice 1. Get a good size case, mobo, processor, etc and put 8 hard drives it in and RAID them. (yes an 8 port SATA mobo). Running CentOS. or 2. Get an eSATA enclosure that has room for 8 or 10 drives and just connect it to box? I know that RAID is not a full proof backup, but I am looking for a solution to store all of my data, projects, music, etc, etc Can I get thoughts for ideas for solutions? Thank You -Jason

Hi,guys: I've been having gnome restart when I've been using firefox. Looking around in diffierent logs i found.. recommendations for SMS/EMS/MMS software simulation?

perhaps an open-ended request, but i'm looking for (if it even exists) some centos 5.4 software that will let me completely simulate the sending and reception of MMS messages on a local network which (AFAICT) would require the simulation of the MMS centre as well (MMSC). so far, i've run across (yum-installable) gammu and i'm just starting to take a look at it. but if anyone out there has already been down that road, i'm open to recommendations. i'm just getting immersed in the world of messaging systems and if there's something that would allow me to simulate all of this on a local network, i would be a deliriously happy puppy. thanks. rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. Hi John, Yes, I looked into this and I was looking for a solution with a large number of drives, but at a good cost point. /var/log/messages(dmesg) ?

Dear All My CentOS server got hung and when I tried to power cycle it , I checked its /var/log/messages & /var/log/dmesg with respect to the time of fault occurance to see what was really happened . But its 'messages' log does not show anything recorded for about 30 minutes before its recovery after power cycling . Can you please let me know where I can check to find the root cause of failure ? Thank you

unattended fsck on reboot

I want to do a reboot of a couple of systems during our maintenance window and fsck them, but would rather try it from home first and not go to the data center. Then of course rush there like a madman if they don't come back up :-) There was a suggestion in the 2nd thread above that with ext3 this should not be required with proper hardware (my paraphrase). I'm using all IBM stuff - x3550, x3650, x3800 and some of the earlier models like x330. I can't imagine this being an issue.
