raid1 creation :: not large enough to join array

Hi! I have 2 identical hdd (1002FBYS) with the same firmware, etc .. really identical! when i try to add the second hdd to this raid1 array i have the message that /dev/sdb is not large enough to join array!! on the first hdd i have 100 mb unpartitioned at the end of disk (as i understood that mdadm put there some info...) Anyone, any idea what can be wrong? i already done this procees several times and this is first time i encounter this and i have no idea what can be the problem .. Thanks! Adrian

yum install -y gcc?

Dear All I tried to install GCC3.x , required to compile Asterisk , on my CentOS 5 server as the followings : #yum install -y gcc But in the middle of the installation , my server went down from sudden power cut . After power recovery , I tried again but I am facing with the following error : "Error:Missing dependency : libstdc++-devel = 4.1.2-46.el5_4.1 is needed by package gcc-c++" Can you please let me know what is its meaning and how I can proceed to re-install it ? Thank you

I need to install application on our Centos5.4 final, every time get this message configure: error: You MUST have the libxml2 (aka gnome-xml) library installed and I tried to run yum install libxml2 and get this message Package libxml2-2.6.26-2.1.2.8.i386 already installed and latest version Please help

Problems loading drbd after upgrade

Hi, I've upgrade the kernel to the latest version (C5) and after the update the drbd is not being loaded at reboot time. My previous running kernel was 2.6.18-164.el5. I've checked the /lib/modules/ and /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.10.1.el5/weak-updates/drbd82/drbd.ko -> /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/extra/drbd82/drbd.ko And /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/extra/drbd82/drbd.ko exists 2004 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2047377 Jan 12 22:52 /lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/extra/drbd82/drbd.ko And the contents (at least the size) is the same of the kmod-drbd82 rpm -ql kmod-drbd82 /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5 /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/extra /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/extra/drbd82 /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/extra/drbd82/drbd.ko ls -lsa /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/extra/drbd82/drbd.ko 2004 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2047377 Oct 3 2008 /lib/modules/2.6.18-92.1.13.el5/extra/drbd82/drbd.ko If I insmod the drbd I can load it and if I start (service drbd start) I can access the shares so something is wrong :)

php update

Hi, according to [CentOS] CentOS-announce Digest, Vol 59, Issue 5 I made an update to php. The Server is running apache in fastcgi mode. Up to yesterday all was OK. Now as far as I see the php script is not further running with the correct user: but the suexec is startet with correct uid and gid! Any help? Suggestions? Helmut

quotacheck question

i want to implement disk quota on my /home filesystem (it is going to be a mail server) so i read tha appropriate how to's edited limits for the users and everything is fine but then for quota meintenance i stuck into quotacheck the man page says quotacheck should be run each time the system boots and mounts non- valid filesystems. This is most likely to happen after a system crash. AND It is also unwise to run quotacheck on a live filesystem as actual usage may change during the scan. To prevent this, quotacheck tries to remount the filesystem read-only before starting the scan. After the scan is done it remounts the filesystem read-write. but the 7.2.3 paragraph (Managing disk quotas) of centos 5 deployment guide ...... However, quotacheck can be run on a regular basis, even if the system has not crashed. Running the following command periodically keeps the quotas more accurate ....... i have looked also on the web and some suggest to run quotacheck only at boot time and others to run quotacheck regularly but i ahve not found a clear answer i wonder what are the comments of centos community on hte subject

how to send mail from console

Hi all, i'm trying to get a script to send me an email whenever a certain condition takes place.. i'm afraid i dont have experience with mail command nor anything else related to sending emails for that matter.. i googled a bit and tried using mutt and mail ... though i do not recieve any email in my inbox... the command im using is the following : mail -s “disk space report” R_O_L_A_N_D(a)hotmail.com should i setup a default smtp to use? where can i check for the errors that are taking place?

Yum update worrisomeness

I went to do an update a bit ago (10:30 or 10:45 EST), and first, it got to rhel-i386-server-5/filelists | 14 MB 02:23 and was running at 2Kb/sec to 4Kb/sec, then, when I killed it and restarted it about 20 min later, it went at about 28Kb/sec, then died, reporting: Error: failed to retrieve repodata/filelists.xml.gz from rhel-i386-server-5 error was [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum This makes me *very* nervous. Anyone know anything? mark

how to startup snmpd on debug mode

I tried to startup "snmpd" on debug mode but NOT successful (CENTOS 5.4).
