Running SSH on a different port (with SELinux)

Hello everyone, Now after the recent discussion on running SSH on a different port, I decided to start a new thread but with SELinux involved. Assuming that you have SELinux enabled, and that you changed the default port for SSHD, let say for 1234, when I restart SSHD I don't get any AVC denials. This is the output of: semanage -l port | grep ssh ssh_port_t tcp 22 I thought (based on previous SELinux readings) that in order to allow SSHD on a non-default port you needed to: semanage port -a -t ssh_port_t -p tcp 1234 That was the theory I read :) Now in practice it seems it is not implemented yet, or at least by the time RHEL5 came out. Curious behaviour of openvpn

I noticed that when I went over to CentOS-5.4 on my server (and re-booted), my openvpn connections failed for a couple of hours, and then came back. Has anyone noticed this? kvm package difference - v36 via yum, v83 via DVD

Hi! As far as I can see there is no kvm in the base repository but the older version 36 in CentOS-Extras. Version 83 that belongs to 5.4 is only found on the install DVD and CD-Set. So it's different when installing kvm later with yum which results in kvm-36 than choosing 'Virtualization' on DVD install that installs kvm-83. It's also a difference between installing from network and DVD, even when the same Kickstart file is used when kvm is selected. What is the reason of the base-repo/media difference? cheers, Brian.

Turning off X-Windows

Hi All, How does one best turn of X-Windows? I dont need it, ssh works just fine for me. I seem to recall it was complicated and since I know enough to do my stuf and not well versed yet in fixing things I break, I dont want to blow this up. Best, -ML

In addition to frequent Firefox crashes (4 or 5 a day, zero before the upgrade from 5.3) I'm also having Amarok crash 2 or 3 times a day. And suddenly the bar at the bottom disappeared - with the 4 screens, the clock, menu and so on. can't "yum install mplayer" : no libmpcdec.so.3 available

Just upgraded to 5.4 yesterday morning. (Kudos to those who did that!) That's probably irrelevant to this problem: "yum install mplayer" fails. Most of my crontab entries on various hosts have comments appended and they all work, for example this one from host3: 45 7 * * * /usr/sbin/logwatch --service http --service imapd --service pop3 --service sshd --service vsftpd --service zz-disk_space --mailto support(a)harte-lyne.ca #Daily Logwatch report on server access services. In any case, removing the comment from the crontab entry on the host in question does not change the behaviour. The logwatch report is still mailed to root(a)host2.harte-lyne.ca Sincerely,

firefox on 5.4

I just installed 5.3 about a week ago, fairly minimal install, x86_64 platform... then upgraded to 5.4 this AM, and just installed firefox $ sudo yum -y install firefox ..... Installed: firefox.i386 0:3.0.12-1.el5.centos firefox.x86_64 0:3.0.12-1.el5.centos $ firefox Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.0.12 and 1.9.0.12. huh?
