OT: General Help in chroot build environment

I am trying to compile a module for a Realtek 8168 for thinstation. I have pulled the developer tarball and executed the script to enter its build environment. I also have the source for the module I want to compile, but when I execute #make clean modules it errors out. Reading the errors, I can see it tried to look for the kernel source of the systems actual running kernel. From within the chroot build environment, I run a #uname -r and see it displays exactly that, and not the build environments expected 2.6.21.1 that it has in the /source/kernel-2.6.21.1/linux-2.6.21.1 dir. I have ran an #export KERNELSRC=/source/kernel-2.6.21.1/linux-2.6.21.1 Any ideas on what's left to convince make it is running with the expected kernel and not my actual one? Thanks! jlc

How do I check the real size of a filesystem?

I'm having a spot of bother with a large (900GB) partition. fdisk claims it's 900GB. I made an ext3 fs on it and df says it's only 94GB. Which is correct? Or did I do something wrong?

Status of tracker for 64bit?

Good morning to you all: I've been trying for a few hours to connect to the tracker for the 5.2 x64 DVD. It has been giving a "connection refused" error. A few days ago the 5.2 i386 downloaded succesfully. Is the tracker down?? Or is something odd happening on my side?? thanks, Kwan

rpmforge-release install/rpm problem

I wanted to install the rpmforge-release package on a new install and get the following. Anaconda ignores "cmdline" directive

Hello, Our environment: CentOS 5.2 (updated over time with "yum update", current "yum update" lists about 7 packages out of date), x86_64. Running Xen, building Xen DomU's with kickstart. We are trying to debug the %post part of the kickstart process for DomU and are hitting difficulties in accessing the output. For a start, the "cmdline" directive in the kickstart seems to be ignored and it stays in "text" (ncurses) mode. mod_python - apache crash

one of my developers is using a mod_python module called xml.dom.minidom and its causing the issue as outlined below http://www.dscpl.com.au/wiki/ModPython/Articles/ExpatCausingApacheCrash This is on CentOS 4.5 and so Apache 2.0.52-38 - I cant change the OS version but i could change the apache and or mod_python version. Does anyone know of any fixes to this apart from rolling my own? thanks

Anyone running a Bluetooth PAN?

Has anyone got a Bluetooth PAN up and running? PAN::= Personal Area Network -> TCP/IP over bluetooth. If so how did you configure it? Like getting a ifcfg-pan0 or some such configured.

Anyone using TCP Connection Passing?

Hello, We are looking at ways to improve our cluster fail-over and one thing that we wonder about is the possibility of passing tcp connections from the primary server to the secondary when the primary dies. I found tcpcp (http://tcpcp.sourceforge.net/) and tcpcp2 (http://tcpcp2.sourceforge.net/) but they seem to be inactive (last release was two years ago) and requires also changes in the application level. I though that I saw somewhere an implementation of the simple idea of having the secondary tracking the connections (sort of "shadowing" the primary) and when the primary disappears it can take over everything. e.g. the following points to some interesting links: http://archive.gscept.com/2006/dev/?p=266 Has anyone here got to implement something like this? Root-filesystem remounts as read-only during 5.2 upgrade (system completely shoot)

Judging from the frequency of my messages here one could think that I'm too stupid to upgrade a workstation to 5.2 (but the servers I've tried work without problem) OK. The problem: I've tried to upgrade a 5.1-x86_64-workstation to 5.2. During the upgrade immidiatly after (according to the /var/log/messages) upgrading the two (64 & 32-bit) libgcc-packages an EXT3-error occurs and the root-partition gets remounted in read-only-mode. Consequently ALL following package upgrades throw errors saying this or that can't be done because he can't write to /etc, /usr but in the end yum says everything is OK. (Side info: /var is on a different partition, so it is still writeable) At reboot the machine wants a manual fsck which throws a lot of errors. Then the machine reboots with with a lot of error messages (basically because it can't find /lib64/libgcc_s.so.1 (nothing a symlink can't fix). After that I try to fix things by manually upgrading the libgcc-packages (otherwise yum won'T run). "rpm -q" for selected packages shows that the majority of the packages is still in 5.1-state. Trying to "yum upgrade" again fail because the machine can't find any servers (but network functionality seems OK) So I try to reboot. And now the really strange thing happens: A simple "rpm -q rpm" says that no rpm is installed. Rebuilding the rpm-database doesn't help. So I'm a bit stuck here with a machine that is in limbo. My questions: what could have been the cause for this (the machine was working OK before that). The only thing I feel a little guilty about was deinstalling the nvidia-kernel-driver and not reboot, but this can't f### up the file-system, can it? Any suggestions what I can do to get the machine into a normal state again (apart from reinstall from scratch)
