Centos 5.2 Install - lvcreate failed for ...

!st install of 5.2; system requires custom partitioning (Scalix mail server). Boot and Swap are hard partitions, rest of drive is LVM. In LVM, three ext3 partitions: /, /home, /var/opt/scalix lvcreate failed for the last (named Scalix_02). It was the last of the three partitions and used up the remainder of the LVM space. Now 'The Installer will now exit..." And all there is is a Reboot button. Any idea on what the real error is, how to find out more, what to try next? It did take me a bit to walk through the packet selection. Next I will try to build a more normal system :)

5.2 upgrade mostly good (so far)

Hi Guys! Thanks to the whole Centos team for all their hard work. You have no IDEA how much I appreciate it! I ran "yum upgrade" last night, rebooted this morning and encountered a couple of small problems: 1. "shutdown -h now" goes all the way down but does not power down the box like it always has before. Same when shutting down via the GUI shutdown dialog. I can offer up machine details should anyone want them. 2. send mail problem on ORACLE/LInux

we have ORACLE 10.2.0.4 with CENTOS 4.4 on DELL server. Recently we are test "UTL_SMTP" on ORACLE PL?SQL program and tried to send MAIL to customers. The problem is this send MAIL program always one time work and second time not work (loop). I don't think problem come from ORACLE bug or any ORACLE relate problem. If I copy database and put on anyother server, it work correctly. updating to 5.2 from local repo

This is my first major version update after using a local repo. It seems that before I can "yum update" I have to fetch the complete new 5.2 base? Is this correct? When I run yum update it now fails with various strange dependency errors although all the updates are synced. When I change to using the original repo file it wants to download many many more and shows a lot of files that are in base and not in updates. CentOS 5.2 - GFS and glock_purge tunable

The documentation for 5.2 indicates the glock_purge tunable parameter is present for GFS in its example output from `gfs_tool gettune`. However, I just upgraded a 5.1 system to 5.2 and everything looks good except for the mysterious absence of the glock_purge parameter. Any ideas as to why this tunable which I was looking forward to getting is missing? - James Thompson

going from 4 to 6 serial ports

I am using 32bit base kernel and want to increase the number of serial ports from 4 to 6. The hardware is a touch screen epos system and it uses com ports 5 and 6 for dedicated devices. I think that I may need a customer kernel. Are there any instructions on how to do this or other ways of solving my problem? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. Mike Kinton

CentOS roadmap/EPEL

There are lots of exciting things happening in the CentOS ecosystem at the moment, by which I mean "upstream" or "across stream" in Fedora and RHEL. I'm thinking of projects that equip RH-like EL in general for serious entry into the enterprise, things like the Fedora Directory Server, and RedHat's Emerging Technologies projects such as Cobbler, FreeIPA and Ovirt. Also JBoss middleware. Will these sort of packages end up in CentOS eventually, or are there any major problems installing EPEL packages on CentOS? I know CentOS is very popular in the web hosting world, but enterprise grade directory servers, provisioning servers and virtualisation technologies could also see greater take up of CentOS in areas like local government and education for example (medium sized but slightly cash-challenged organisations). I suppose this is some kind of roadmap question, or a question about using EPEL packages on CentOS. Personally, I'm interested in using these "emerging technologies" in the local government environment.

Lots of Centos 5.2 updates already

I just completed my first 5.2 install. For 'completeness' I 'tested out' yum update. Guess what? For this minimum install, there were 43Mb of updates to download. So I went over to my local repo server and setup a /centos/5.2/updates directory and started the rsync to get all the updates: 155 files taking up 943Mb. Already. Wow! Perhaps something to do with the initial build problem? But anyone that does an install from the CDs/DVD and includes OpenOffice, then turns around and updates, is in for a scary supprise. Yet another reason for the local repos....
