DMA mode

Hi folks, I have an HP Proliant 140DL G2 server with what appears to be an IDE drive in non-DMA mode. Performance on the server is extremely bad when large amounts of disk activity is taking place. I think the problem is that my drive is not in DMA mode: # hdparm /dev/hda /dev/hda: multcount = 16 (on) IO_support = 0 (default 16-bit) unmaskirq = 0 (off) using_dma = 0 (off) keepsettings = 0 (off) readonly = 0 (off) readahead = 256 (on) geometry = 16383/255/63, sectors = 80026361856, start = 0 ...but I can't set it on: # hdparm -d1 /dev/hda /dev/hda: setting using_dma to 1 (on) HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted using_dma = 0 (off) ...which I think is because the IDE controller isn't really recognized, or is pretending to be a SATA controller: # lspci -v | less 00:1f.2 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801EB (ICH5) SATA Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 8a [Master SecP PriP]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company: Unknown device 3208 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 193 I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at <unassigned> I/O ports at 1470 [size=16] All the google hits I've seen so far imply I have to build a kernel module but I'd rather not get into the business of rolling my own kernel if I don't have to. I spun through the HP support page for this box/OS combo, and I don't see any SATA/IDE/ATA drivers, only SCSI/SAS drivers. EXT3 error message on CENTOS 3.4

We have DELL 2650 with CENTOS 3.4 installed. Today I saw following messages on /var/log/messages. Anyone know what it mean? Slow gfs performance

HI, Sorry for repeating same mail ,while composing that mail i mistakenly typed the send button.I am facing problem with my gfs and below is the running setup. My setup Two node Cluster[only to create shared gfs file system] with manual fencing running on centos 4 update 5 for oracle apps. Shared gfs partition are mounted on both the node[active-active] Whenever i type df -h command it will take some delay to print my shared gfs partition,it is happening even if i continuously typing df -h command . Shared GFS file system storage is from IBM STORAGE.I don't know what parameter to be fine tuned,bcoz of that may be i feel my oracle apps is also very slow. In syslog i am getting following error continuously in one of the node less /var/log/messages test2 kernel: 493 [RAIDarray.mpp]AHA-SN01:1:0:10 Cmnd failed-retry the same path. vcmnd SN 7147770 pdev H2:C0: T0:L10 0x00/0x00/0x00 0x00020000 mpp_status:2 Any one help me to get rid of this slow gfs performance. 3Ware 9690SA

I successfully installed CentOS on 3ware 9650SE controller. Due to some issues with compatibility with my motherboard, I replaced it with a 9690SA. Now the system won't boot (although interestingly enough, it find the boot menu fine, just won't boot past a certain point in the bootup phase. I thought I would reinstall, but anaconda doesn't find the raid array. 3ware does have drivers on their site, but I'm not too sure how to get them on my system? Russ

Web proxy/content filter w/ AD integration

I need to setup a proxy that does transparent auth to AD, does anyone have experience or suggestions for a setup that will run in CentOS? I came across an article on integrating Squid with Windows AD for auth but it doesn't auth transparently (is that even possible?). Thanks! jlc

Looking with Wireshark I see localhost going through ports sending swdtp -sv > some port. What causes this action? CentOs 5.1 desktop KDE. Any ideas? Jarmo

EVMS?

EVMS Enterprise Volume Management System sounds interesting, looks like it supported CentOS4, but not CentOS5. But maybe I'm not looking in the right places. -- Drew Einhorn
