SELinux policy module sources

Hi. I'm trying to figure out where the SELinux policy modules shipped with the system live, and how they work. The modules listed by 'semodule -l' are the same as those available in /etc/selinux/targeted/modules/active/modules, but those are not part of any package, and are presumably added and removed to this location as they are added and removed to the kernel. I later found these modules to live in /usr/share/selinux. If I create a policy module of my own, is this the place to put it to make sure that it is loaded when the system boots? Or do I also need to list it somewhere, such in a configuration file? The reason why I ask is because there are a few .pp files in this directory that are not visible in the list of loaded modules, and they are also not available in the /etc/selinux/.../modules directory above. I today tried to figure out what these precompiled policy packages contain, but that isn't exactly obvious. I found .if files in /usr/share/selinux/devel/include/... that correspond to the .pp files in /usr/share/selinux, but nothing else. The .if files only contain definitions, but don't these need to be used somewhere, such as in .te files? And what about the .fc files that the policy generation tool in system-config-selinux creates? Are such files not needed? Lots of questions, but the documentation on this subject isn't exactly stellar. :) Regards Ingemar

I believe Florin Andrei had a typo in his message. No other file system will be as reliable as *XFS*. I've had XFS recover from system failures that Ext3 would/could not recover from. If you want dependability, reliability, and also large file systems, only use XFS. You'll find none better. You should also be using the 64 bit kernels as well, but then, you want that for a whole lot other reasons anyways. -- Brent L. Bates (UNIX Sys. Admin.) kingston usb memory stick and file mode permissions

I wish to change the ownership and access permissions of files and directories contained on this device. The device is immediately recognized and mounted when plugged in and I can create and move files on it. However, I cannot change either the permissions or the owner of any file or directory on this device, nor of the device mount itself, whether logged in as the owner or as root. But... Can i do that just with centos install cd and 3ware drivers? Format the volumes with 8TB/9TB/10TB without problems? Slightly OT? - How do I set up Win98 to access a printer on my CentOS box?

I have a WinXP guest under VMWare on my CentOS 5.1 host and it can access the CentOS printer(s) just fine. However, I also have a Win98 box on the LAN that I would like to be able to print on the CentOS printer. When I try to connect to the printer, Win98 tells me that it can't find the network...? Any suggestions? (This "slightly" really is - it _is_ directly related to CentOS, unlike my previous FC8 post....) Thanks. mhr

Either *very* early some morning, before my wife is using her box, or when she's not home. I am not using a specific mirror. The other boxes also have priority working and yum gives the message about 259 (?) packages are protected and the Kernel updates on them were OK. However, as I am typing this, I suspect that I updated the Kernels on the other 2 boxes, by checking that they be updated in "PUP", with a couple of other packages, and not with the blanket "yum update" as I did in her box, with the command line. >BTW: I notice that your mail is missing any threading information, so >that it doesn't thread at all. I do not believe that is a setting in Gmail. When I signed up for the list (3 years ago), I selected the Digest, because we had to go back to dial up, when we moved here. We have ADSL now, so I just changed that, to get individual emails from the list. That should begin Monday or Tuesday, and, hopefully, my messages will look better, when I reply. Also, during the past few days, with the DVD reader problem and this one, I have also done some reading of the ML Archives on the CentOS web site and copied messages there that I replied to, before I received them in the Digest the next morning. Hopefully, when I begin receiving individual messages, when I reply to them, the threading will not get screwed up, as it is now. Lanny

Problem mounting failed drive.

What is it that makes "text rescue" able to mount a drive, but I cannot mount it in a running system (or Knoppix/Ubuntu/CentOS Live CD etc) ? When booting with "text rescue" it mounts the old filesystem and I can see all my data (Not that I can do anything with it.... I cannot seem to figure out how to get it out of the system????) Anyhow I rebuilt a 2nd server, and tested and notice the same, even on a working systems I cannot mount the drives in another system....?? So, anyone able to help me either, mount the failed system (currantly sitting in the working system as hdc2) or mount it into anything else so I can copy some of the data off? This all started with a Grub error 25 that I could not seem to fix... Thanks for any tips.

CentOS as VPN Gateway?

Hello, I am currently setting up my new router, and I opted for using CentOS.. Now, I need OpenVPN support, and I'd rather not install it from source. I tried yum, but there doesn't appear to be any packages for it available.. Any tips? -- Cheers, Morten :wq
