Setting up RAID using mdadm on a proliant DL320 G4

Hi, I have a new server HP proliant DL320 G4, with two 160 GB SATA hdds.. I have installed CentOS 4.5 with mdadm without any problem, but when I disconnect one disk the server does not boot or I received a kernel panic when booting... I have disabled the SATA embeded raid (BIOS) and nothing.. I've also download the driver from HP site HP (Embedded SATA RAID Controller Driver Diskette for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (x86)). and nothing it does not recognize the driver from HP... does anybody knows how to setup a software linux RAID on a proliant DL320 G4? thanks in advance regards, Israel

Centos 5 Xen Problem

Hi , I am using Centos 5 for virtualization , i have installed Centos 5 as Host OS and trying install Centos 5 as a guest OS but system is stuck at final screen Starting Install process. This may take saveral minutes...... and its not doing anything else after that i am waiting for at leat 30-40 minutes. Kernel and Hardware details are as follows: Kernel Linux xen 2.6.18-8.el5xen #1 SMP Thu Mar 15 21:02:53 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Hardware: CPU : Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.50GHz Flags: fpu tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe up cid xtpr Memory: 1GB so what is wrong can any one tell me . Server Virtualization

Hello, I work for a school in a New Zealand university and we are wanting to implement Server Virtualization for both CentOS and Windows systems. So I thought I would ask here what experience people have had with this and what issues that you all think should be considered? From my own research it seems that VMWare or Xen are really the two major products to be considered, are there any others I should be considering ? Is anyone running Linux "Guest" O/S's inside a Windows host ?? And if so can you share your reasons for this? Anyway thank you for your time and any experiences / knowledge you are willing to share :)

CentOS 4.5: Print on custom paper size?

I'd like to print on an index card. My printer (an HP LaserJet 2100) supports it, but I can't figure out how to get a 3x5 inch option in CentOS's "Printer Properties" dialog. Reconfiguring gnome desktop

Please - how do I reconfigure my gnome desktop (CentOS 4.4) to get back my application icons and workspaces? Something's changed in the settings so that there are no workspaces shown in the panel and applications "disappear" off the screen when applications (eg Evolution, Mozilla etc) are minimized! When I log in as root, it's all still there OK! Any help appreciated - thanks Andy

Disabling shutdown and suspend for normal users

Hi, [CentOS 5] What is the best way to remove the shutdown and suspend options from menu's for normal users? After googling around, I added "SystemMenu=false" to the greeter section in /etc/gdm/custom.conf. After that the GDM login screen still shows the options, but 'restart' indeed doesn't work anymore. However, the gnome menu's when logged in, still have the 'suspend' options, which still leads to a hanging (unwakeble) machine. CentOS-4.5 and LG cd-rom/dvd burner

I would like to burn the cd-rom iso's of CentOS-5.0 on my desktop machine, which is running CentOS-4.5. Is there a site or other reference that can provide me with a detailed, hand held, step-by-step, blow-by-blow description on how to do this for my installation? rebuilding rpmdevtools from epel5 SRC has fc7 dependent

hello, I'm suprised that an SRC.RPM from the rhel5 repo needs a file from FC7. I grabbed rpmdevtools from http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/epel/5/ it rebuilds fine as EL5, but when I go to install it, it requires a version of rpm-build higher than the C5 base version (4.4.2-37) --------------------- grab dependencies ------------- $ rpm -qpR rpmdevtools-6.1-0.1.noarch.rpm ... config(rpmdevtools) = 6.1-0.1 cpio diffutils fakeroot ... perl(File::Spec) perl(File::Temp) perl(FileHandle) perl(Getopt::Long) perl(strict) redhat-rpm-config rpm-build >= 4.4.2.1 rpm-python rpmlib(CompressedFileNames) <= 3.0.4-1 rpmlib(PayloadFilesHavePrefix) <= 4.0-1 rpmlib(VersionedDependencies) <= 3.0.3-1 ... --------------------- end snip --------------- I reverted to the lower version 5.3.xxx and it works fine. -- Mark --------------------------------- Yahoo! oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links.
