Now, this is an embarrassing situation. I spoke too soon. After installing CentOS 5, I left this particular system unpatched *on purpose* so that I can observe the kernel oops caused by the known cifs bug. Because the system crash did not occur for a few days, I had forgotten about it. Apparently, the find command triggered the crash. Now that the system is proven unstable, I will go ahead and install the patched cifs.ko provided by Johnny. Sorry for the noise, but I needed to confirm that the patch really works. Akemi

Base install not on first CD with centos5?

I have everything unchecked in my package selection screen except for the default packages in "base" and it wants CDs 1, 2 and 3. Is this an upstream problem or centos problem? How should I follow up on this? A bug report in centos's bugzilla? Mike

centos 5.0 server iso

Hello, In 4.4 there was a 4.4 server iso. I have not found the same for 5.0, and really don't want to download six isos. Does anyone know where the 5.0 server iso is? Thanks. Dave.

Issues with r8169 gige on boot.

Hi all, I've recently upgraded a system from CentOS 4.4 to CentOS5, and now when the system boots, the r8169 ethernet card doesn't come up. After the boot sequence, if I type "ifup eth1 | ifup eth1.10 | ifup eth1.203" then the adapter starts up ok. It seems to be something with the boot sequence it loads the ethernet adapters a different way around (ie 4.4 eth0 is now eth1 and eth1 is now eth0). Is there a way to revert this? Will there be a centos 5 -centosplus repo? Now I not asking for one now or when will there be one, just if there will be one in the future. I am interested in an updated kernel for the various flavors of file systems, jfs,xfs,etc. Thanks.

Strange content in the kernel dmesg traces

I am experimenting with the kernel (as some of you may know), and I have added a whole slew of traces in some relatively sensitive code in the lower levels of the page cache and i/o functions. Most of this tracing not only works but is highly revealing as to what the kernel is doing and why. However, I am now getting this odd content in the trace log (dmesg), and I cannot figure out what it is or why it is there. recording sound: how 2 control recording level?

Hi gang! I'm trying to record (to .wav files) sound coming in on the line input of my sound card (in this case, output of a tape deck). For LISTENING purposes, I can control the level with the Gnome Mixer. However, the RECORDING level is not affected by the mixer. As a result, the recorded audio is badly clipped and horribly distorted. I don't understand enough about how this stuff works to have a clue how to troubleshoot this problem. Can someone offer helpful advice? Isa Soundcard under CentOS 5

Hello, Under Fedora Core 6 I used to integrate the soundcard of my notebook with modprobe snd-opl3sa2. Now, after changing my system to CentOS 5, I could not find this module for my isa soundcard any more. # ls -al /lib/modules/2.6.18-8.1.1.el5/kernel/sound/isa/ insgesamt 24 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 27. Hi, I am running raid 1 on a centos 4.4. One of the harddisk (sda1) failed. How can i carry on running the server using only sda2? Thank you
