I tested on 3 IBM PCs with the same configuration so I think something's wrong b/w IBM hardware and CentOS Have you fixed your problem? Cheers, Thuong

I left out part of this (that I did after sending the message). Apparently the problem isn't so much the flash drive as what happens when the icon on the gnome desktop doesn't go away - it refuses to be removed. I can manually mount the flash drive to its proper mount point, and access it through the icon, but when I unmount it, the icon doesn't go away, and after that, until/unless I manually remount the drive again, the icon doesn't work (and won't unmount - duh!). Now I'm not sure if this is a gnome issue or a CentOS issue. If I log out and log back in, the icon still doesn't go away (implicating the OS), but when I reboot, all is well again, for a while.... Thanks. PS: John, the drive was not actually mounted when this happened, so a dd would not work, either - it didn't even matter if the drive was plugged in or not - the icon was there and unusable/misbehavin'. I threw out the U3 stuff as soon as I tried to use it - it didn't work (under Windows) and I had no use for it anyway. It happened again - the directory comes up as blank, and the icon for the flash drive won't unmount. dovecot and squirrelmail problem

Squirrelmail and Dovecot IMAP server are on separate machines, but both systems are running CentOS 4.4 and all applications are installed via yum Dovecot and Postfix are configured to use Maildir. I log in to Squirrelmail and attempt to create the directory named "test", as subfolder of None and allow it to contain subfolders. I get this error: ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: CREATE "test/" Reason Given: Invalid mailbox name: test/ There are no clues in log files anywhere. Any suggestion? -- Florin Andrei http://florin.myip.org/

Digital Audio (via EIDE ribbon cables) supported in Kernel in CentOS 5.0?

Hello: Will Digital Audio (via EIDE ribbon cables) be supported in the Kernel in CentOS 5.0? I'm now using CentOS 4.4 on a Dell Dimension 2400 box (Celeron 2.6 GHz CPU). This is a dual boot box, rarely booted into Windows XP, but when I do use Windows, and I place an Audio CD into the DVD drive or CD-RW drive, I can hear the music. Using CentOS 4.4, I can see that the software and hardware are working OK, but, no music audible thru the speakers. TIA, Lanny

Red Hat, in their documentation manuals, which are available to download from CentOS.org, does NOT recommend upgrades. It is always better to backup your data, do a "clean" install, and then restore your data. That said, with my recent experience on this box, going from FC4 to FC6, in retrospect, I would have probably done as well or better, with an "upgrade". :-) I suggest that you partition manually with Disk Druid and that you do not use LVM if you are not up to speed on that. Same for RAID. Those are the recommendations in the Red Hat manuals for RHEL. Suggest you set up a small FAT32 partition, when you partition with Disk Druid for your Linux partitions, and move data between NTFS and ext3 via FAT32, if you need to share data. Not a good idea, to write to NTFS partitions from Linux, unless the knowledge of NTFS has increased a lot recently. Yes, give it a try. We used Red Hat Linux 9 for a *long* time. CentOS 4.4 is probably very similar to that. CentOS does not have the latest Multimedia or Internet applications, for desktop use, but that's because it is a server oriented distribution and it is based on RHEL, which is more stable and secure. It is not always good to have the latest and greatest software, unless you like to fight bugs. I always do "Custom" installs, select what packages I want and how to do it. The Installer in CentOS 4.4 will allow you complete control, if you want it. The developers of CentOS are extremely active on this mailing list and I have seen them be incredibly helpful to people on this list. HTH, Lanny in Colombia, South America
