Lost Samba GUI interface

Setting up rsync

About a year and a half ago, someone answered a request on how to set up rsync so that the encryption was automatically setup (wish I knew more about the technical aspects). It has been in use for the time since then and it has been great. Now I have to replace the destination computer and setting up, what I call the encryption part, is the part I have forgotten how to do. This is the command line: /usr/bin/rsync -av -e ssh /home/ 192.168.0.22:/home/ Is there anyone who can translate what I am trying to do? Desktop link for NTFS .htm file type asks for run or display in CentOS 4.4

I created a desktop launcher whose type was a link and pointed to an NTFS file on a read-only ( ro ) partition. When I open the launcher it always asks me whether I want to display or run the file. Of course I want display it and when I click on that button it displays it in my browser, Firefox, correctly. It is neverthless onerous to constantly be asked and have to then click the correct display button rather than Gnome knowing to display it automatically. This appears to be happening because the file on the NTFS has an executable permission set to it because the umask I used in /etc/fstab for the partition was 0222. However when I tried changing the umask to 0333, in order to only have the read bit turned on, after rebooting an attempt to open the file from the launcher fails completely since nothing happens. Is there a solution to this problem, or is this just the way Gnome works in regard to its launchers ?

UPS support on CentOS 4.4

I have an APC Back-UPS XS1500 powering my computer. It may be overkill for a single computer but it makes me feel secure. Gnome power management will not install on CentOS 4.4 because of dependency problems. I have installed the acpupsd daemon and this will protect me against power failure but the GUI interface to it, gapcmon, will not install due to dependency problems. I know that some will not consider a GUI interface important but I like to see what is happening if and when my A/C power gets disconnected and my computer is running on UPS battery power, and I like to be informed of this when I am online. Without gapcmon, or trying to hack my own program, this is not possible with CentOS 4.4, although as I said the apcupsd daemon will automatically and gracefully shut me down if my A/C power goes off and my UPS gets close to running out of backup battery power.. I realize that CentOS 4.4 is based on reliability, and not the latest and greatest software out there, but I am wondering what total UPS solution actually exists for it, or for RHEL4 which customers of the latter have used. I can live with apcupsd, and I realize that with an upcoming CentOS 5 there will probably be better compatibility, but I was wondering if there is any other total solution for the time being which anyone else has used. minicom

I need a terminal program, such as minicom, which I see is not part of my Strongbolt install of CentOS+BQ loaded on a RaQ 4 system. Does anyone know if a standard rpm for minicom should work or where to get a package that will provide minicom or other terminal program? Or, perhaps there is another terminal program installed in my system that I can look for? -- Robert

Help needed to pinpoint problem uebimiau+apache+centos 4.4

Hi, I need some guidance to pinpoint a potential problem and I'm not sure where is the problem. I have a setup with: centos 4.4 dvd on i386 mailscanner uebimiau (webmail) 2.7.10 httpd-2.0.52-22.ent.centos4 httpd-suexec-2.0.52-22.ent.centos4 dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1 The thing is that 3 of my 45 users complained that from the webmail the address book and the sent items are missing. Cheking those accounts in the webmail, I see that the address book and the sent mails dissapeared. this installation is 6 months old and we never had a glitch and I haven't upgraded anything. Build RPM packages with SELinux policy

Hi, I want to build an RPM package which contains an custom SELinux policy for the daemon. I know that there is a new, more modularized SELinux architecture in FC5 and later (which makes this probably much easier) but I need to support RHEL 4/CentOS, too. I know how to use audit2allow to do some minor modifications but I don't know currently how to build RPM packages which ship a new SELinux policy without requiring the SELinux source modules (e.g. selinux-policy-targeted-sources) on RHEL 4 at install time. Any pointers? Ideas welcome. fs

Hi i need to install php when i download and install the cacti it say that and i can not find any pure php rpm but it is an php-excel and so on, what php should i use ? the yum command do noit find any php to update since i have php installed than it complains that it needs php-pear and i am in the same situation and i have several to choose among ..., php-ldap is missing ...
