CentOS-4.4 update: don't forget those rpmsave and rpmnew files folks!

After you do your update, done forget to do updatedb, makewhatis, ... The locate for rpmnew has a couple items of interest and the locate for rpmsave returns one that occupies 24MB of your precious disks - /var/lib/Pegasus/prev-repository*. It compresses nicely to appx. 1MB, cpio bzipped --best. Change in your rndc key too, for DNS.

proftpd and iptables problem

Hi list, im having a problem with proftpd access when my firewall is running. Wiki: CentOS Media Sightings

Hi, I just started a new page on the CentOS wiki called "InTheMedia" <http://wiki.centos.org/InTheMedia>. I'd like to collect sightings of CentOS in all (linkable) media formats on that page, like newspapers, news tickers, magazines on the web or even TV and Radio. If you've seen some report on the news about CentOS and you have a link - send this link and a short description to me, I'll add those to this page. If you have TV and Radio "sightings" and there's no linkable stuff, a short description (Where? Which station? What was said?) would be great. A more common interface to the wiki (like: You can edit stuff yourself) is still in the discussion. Oh, and I don't think several distrowatch pages or osnews will count. But I can be convinced otherwise :) Oh, and please - don't go backwards through your browsers history (well okay, if you have something *really* great, do so - a link to the Tuttle video with a date would be in this category). I'd like to start from now. Yum updates packages for other arch too

Hi, I have the x86_64 arch on my server so therfore i expect that yum updates only x86_64 packages. With the last *yum update* i´ve noticed a strange behaviour while retrieving the needed packeges. As you you see, yum wants install packages for different architectures: glibc x86_64 2.3.4-2.25 base 4.9 M glibc i686 2.3.4-2.25 base 5.1 M . . . dmraid i386 1.0.0.rc11-3_RHEL4_U4 base 396 k and the list continues. Impossible update wine package.

Hello. Any idea how to update wine package? I´m havig this problem from several days, or maybe is better get wine package from other repository? Remote upload apache files

Hi all, I need to upload files to /var/www/html on our remote centos box. The perms on /var/www/html are stock from the install, (drwxr-xr-x root.root). I set the box for ftp, but (obviously) normal users can't write to that directory. I don't want to allow root ftp logins (I've also disabled root ssh logins, so scp doesn't work either), and I don't know how secure it is to change ownership of the html directory. Can someone float me a couple of hints on how to accomplish this? TIA, -- Tom

Up2date-Problems

Hi Folks, as recommended I have only updated up2date , up2date-gnome.# All other packages deselected. Run uptodate - okay. But now I have no channels in up2date - I can't update my system. centos 4.4: up2date rpm post scriptlet fail ?

Hi, I got this in yum update process : /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.43939: line 12: restorecon: command not found error: %post(up2date-4.4.69-25.centos4.5.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 127 "restorecon" is from package "policycoreutils", this last one has never been installed on my system ... Any ideas ? -- Martin

How to download only packages?

Hello. I tried update but have some connection breaks and I would like download only packages and when all will be downloaded install them. I tried --download-only feature but is not accepted in thiss version of Yum. Any other ideas? Thanks --------------------------------- LLama Gratis a cualquier PC del Mundo. Hi, copy your key from /etc/rndc.conf to /var/named/chroot/etc/rndc.key if you are unable to contact your bind (DNS) server after the last update.
