rsync and users

Thanks to the encouragement of some people on this list, I am using rsync to synchronize two servers: one is a backup to the other in case the primary one fails. By hand, I inserted the names of the users on the primary server into the backup server. So, now all works well. /usr/bin/rsync -av -e ssh /home/ 192.168.0.22:/home/ My question is what would happen if the users were not on the backup server? Kernel downgrade?

Hi list! I've been bitten by a bug in the latest kernel 2.6.9-34.EL and I already removed the old kernel. Are old kernels retained at any place? I need to go back to 2.6.9-22.02 but where can I find it? In the Centos 4.3 directory I find only the latest kernel, not the older ones? Thanks!!

Jazz drive

Hi We setup a server the other day for a client, and it has a 35gig jazz drive in it. Centos 4.2 recognizes it as a cd disk. How would I go abouts getting it to read and write to it? When I click on the cd-rom disc icon it loads up cd/dvd creator. Shouldn't it just recognize it as an external drive? Thanks

First SSH now VSFTP

Seems the script kiddies are now hitting vsftp with dictionary attacks. I had three boxes showing around 12000 attempts from one IP yesterday. My thoughts are that there should be an upstream solution for this which is then supported by the upstream vendor. Yes, I know there are several 'other' solutions, but I'd really like to stay mainstream and use a supported method for dealing with these issues. I can't help but view them as security issues.
