Does the rest of the world have a route back to the server for that new IP address? Has anyone successfully used centos 4 as an iscsi CLIENT /w CHAP?

I am having a very hard time getting iscsi to work with CentOS 4, if I put the same exact settings into the Microsoft ISCSI initiator it works great, however I continually get authentication errors from the kernel driver for iscsi when I try it on my *nix machine. Any advice? Thanks, -Drew

Best mkfs.ext2 performance options on RAID5 in CentOS 4.2

I can't seem to get the read and write performance better than approximately 40MB/s on an ext2 file system. IMO, this is horrible performance for a 6-drive, hardware RAID 5 array. Please have a look at what I'm doing and let me know if anybody has any suggestions on how to improve the performance... System specs: ----------------- 2 x 2.8GHz Xeons 6GB RAM 1 3ware 9500S-12 2 x 6-drive, RAID 5 arrays with a stripe size of 256KB. Each array is 2.3TB after formatting. ioscheduler set to use the deadline scheduler. mkfs.ext2 options used: ------------------------ mkfs.ext2 -b 4096 -L /d01 -m 1 -O sparse_super,dir_index -R stride=64 -T largefile /dev/sda1 I'm using a stride size of 64 since the ext2 block size is 4KB and the array stripe size is 256KB (256/4 = 64). I'd love to create an ISCSI Target with Centos 4 but have not seen any good docs on how to accomplish this. Anyone know of any good docs on how to make Centos 4.1 a good ISCSI Target? Thanks Scott

clamav

Hi all, I tried: /usr/bin/freshclam -l /var/log/clamav/clam-update.log and I got some warnings telling me that my ClamAV installation is OUTDATED - please update immediately!... then I tried: yum update clamav, but no clamav package was found. Does anybody know how to update clamav using yum or any other updater??? Thanks, JC --

grub booting from software raid problem

Dear All, I'm trying to install Centos 4.2 x86_64 on a new Opteron server, using a software raid 1 boot partition. Here is the appropriate section of my kickstart.cfg #System bootloader configuration bootloader --location=mbr #Clear the Master Boot Record zerombr yes #Partition clearing information clearpart --all --initlabel #Disk partitioning information part raid.01 --size 50000 --asprimary --ondisk sda part raid.02 --size 50000 --asprimary --ondisk sdb raid / --level=1 --device=md0 --fstype ext3 raid.01 raid.02 ###################################### Unfortunately, when the server completes the install and reboots I am stuck at a GRUB prompt. Typing the following at the grub prompt allows me to boot: root (hd1,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-22.ELsmp ro root=/dev/md0 initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9-22.ELsmp.img boot But, once booted grub-install fails: grub-install --root-directory=/boot /dev/sda /dev/md0 does not have any corresponding BIOS drive If I don't use software raid for the root partition, all works fine, but this erodes the redundancy of my server... Have I suddenly started doing something wrong, or is there a new bug out there that needs whacking ? I'd be grateful for your comments! Jake -- Dr J. samba log on problems

I can not log on to my samba server from centos client, this used to be ok when running 4.1. I don't now if I have messed up or what. The server is up and running, no problems with log on from windows client. On client, Iptables is ok, server is running, lisa is running.
