WhiteBox 4 -> CentOS4.1 - Yum

Hi Is it possible to swap the yum.conf from my centos box onto my whitebox box and have the whitebox machine use centos updates through yum? CentOS seems further ahead and far quicker at roll outs than whitebox? thanks

Workforce Management system suggestion [OT]

Hi all, this is an off topic suggestion request. I am looking for a very simple tool to basically manage employee datas, personal information as well as their contracts, holidays etc. I have been looking on sourceforge and googling, thinking something would come out but had no luck. Before I start anything myself, is there anyone that can suggest a preferibly LAMP free open source application? Thanks, have a nice day

New GNOME items not displayed automatically

Hello List, It seems whenever I try to download something via Firefox (which is saved by default to the GNOME desktop), I would still need to press Ctrl-R (Refresh) to make the new item show up. Anybody here know why this is so? Is there any tweak that I can do to make new items display automatically? Any help would be apprecidated. SSL not working for scripts

(BlueQuartz+CentOS4 server) I installed an SSL cert on my server this week. Disappearing mouse on CentOS 4.1

For the second time in two days, my mouse just "disappeared" from my desktop system running CentOS 4.1 (yes, I'm using CentOS as a workstation). At the time, I was trying to open the main Gnome menu from the panel, and I think my hand slipped before I released the mouse button. I tried accessing an alternate console (Ctrl-Alt-1) and then coming back to the X11 desktop (Alt-F7) but that didn't fix the problem. Alt-Tab wouldn't cycle through windows, and when I tried to do a xkill from the active xterm window, I got a "Can't grab the mouse" error. I killed the X server with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace and logged back in, and everything is back to normal. Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions on how to debug this next time it happens? To be fair, I should tell you that I am using Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net) to share the mouse and keyboard of the CentOS system with two other systems (my CentOS box is the Synergy server). I've been using Synergy for a long time, and CentOS almost as long, and have never had this problem until this week. My last yum update was on 9/17 and it did update the xorg-x11 packages. I wonder if this is a bug in the latest release... Alfred

How long between RH updates & CentOS updates?

In the past few days, I've gotten tons of email from RH about updates to RHEL-3, yet when I run 'yum list updates' on my CentOS-3 server, it says there are no updates. How long behind RH does CentOS trail? -- -ste

install on dell precision 380 with RAID

All, I am installing centos 4.1 on dell precision 380 with RAID on the motherboard. I have setup the disks as RAID and when I get to the manual partition page I see both disks??? It uses the intel matrix storage manager. I was expecting to only see one drive? Have I done something wrong? Thanks, Jerry

ant RPM for CentOS 4

Attempting to build OpenOffice 2 on CentOS 4 from rawhide (future FC5) SRPM. The spec file has EL4 target (which is nice), and I got almost all dependencies in place (mostly from 4.2beta and some from rawhide). However, I'm missing the ant package. Ant from rawhide doesn't compile since it is already gcc 4 based (fails on dependencies, getting it to use gcc4 instead of gcc seems like nice piece of work, but I might be wrong, I might need to do it after all). Similar story with FC4 ant SRPM. CentOS doesn't have ant RPM at all. FC3 (which is the closest match to EL4/CentOS4) doesn't have it either. Has anybody managed to rebuild ant SRPM on CentOS 4.x? ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.

Problems with Additional IP's, Sendmail, and iptables?

Hello CentOS, Setup: CentOS 4.1 (Latest YUM) Sendmail Multiple IP's on eth0:x (1 through 150 or so) iptables I've noticed that whenever I add another IP address to my servers on one of the eth0:x aliases, the IP comes up fine and restarting pure-ftpd and apache seems to be able to use the IP straight away. Sendmail also 'seems' to use it fine, but something odd is occuring that I have been able to track down. When adding the IP, any domains pointing to the IP are added to the local-host-names file, their email aliases are all configured, and sendmail is restarted. The problem is, none of the aliases ever work unless I actually reboot the entire machine. I've tried restarting as many of the running daemons as I can, I'm either looking in the wrong places, or there's no other choice? On the old RedHat machines I had, this used to work fine without a reboot. Any suggestions? -- Best regards, Mickael mailto:centos@silverservers.com
