Equivalent command or file

List, is there an equivalent on Linux as "watch" under FreeBSD, as well as the "snp" or snoop device that permits one to watch what is going on in another terminal? Yes there are privacy issues here, but in a home system with a couple of folks logged in trying to help with compiling stuff, it'd be nice to see what and how they are doing it. Thanks... -- Snowman

YUM error - are repositories down or something?

Following advice on how to ensure that PHP and MySQL are on my machine and working correctly, I ran the following YUM command, with the subsequent error: [root@localhost ~]# yum install php php-mysql httpd mysqlclient10 mysql- server Setting up Install Process Setting up Repos http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el4/en/i386/dag/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (113, 'No route to host')> Trying other mirror. Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: dag failure: repodata/repomd.xml from dag: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try. Unless I am misunderstanding this error (which is quite likely), it seems to indicate that YUM can not reach the online repositories. Is that the case? Or does the problem reside on my end? Dave

It seems your network is not working, and yum can't reach it's repositories. Make shore you can ping google.com or similar ! If not, check your network configuration. Dave, What you need is php, msql & apache. You can install all the packages via using yum First execute yum install php php-mysql httpd mysqlclient10 mysql-server yum will resolve all dependences for you and probably will install some additional packages that you may need. If you have some packages already installed yum will tell you ! After installation, you will have to start several services: service httpd start service mysqld start to test that your webserver is running you can use your local browser httpd://localhost the best way to test php is to put a phpinfo.php file in your webserver document root usually in /var/www/html/. Do the following: vi /var/www/html/phpinfo.php insert in the first line: <? phpinfo(); ?> To test php do the following: httpd://localhost/phpinfo.php it will show you your php configuration. Update/upgrade paths?

Good afternoon, Netizens... I have a number of 3.3 CentOS boxes that are quite a substantial distance from my home office. Short of physically going to those sites with a fresh set of CD's in hand, is there a method of remotely (via secure SSH) updating not only the files but the distribution as well, say to 4.1? Can you do a distribution update without using CD's? After a few weeks of experimenting with CentOS 4.1 I am really motivated to upgrade, if for no other reason than the fresh kernel and x.org, to name just a few. PXE Install CentOS-4.1

I am setting up CentOS-4.1 so I can install it via PXE Boot. I have everything working except the only packages available for selection is the Minimal set. The other groups are grayed out and can't be selected. Any ideas? I have also discovered that anaconda does not follow http redirects which is a bit annoying. Running CentOS 4 w/ BlueQuartz on a whitebox, and getting this cron.daily email: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate: error: error running postrotate script Is this a common problem? Thoughts on a typical solution? thnx, Manny
