CentOS-4 + 3ware 7810 not quite working

The module loads and the disks are accessible no problem, but the 3dm monitoring utility runs for about 30 seconds before the processes just disappear. Nothing in messages. I tried updating to the latest firmware but it made no difference. Has anyone gotten the 3dm utility working on centos4? Is this a 2.6 thing? -jim

Mailinglist moderation

Hi, I think the time (150 messages and counting) has come to ask someone of the CentOS team to start moderating this list. I don't mind people discussing whatever topic they like, but not at the expense of the mailinglist and its members. I don't think the topic really doesn't matter in these discussions, and if done in private they would stand for long anyway. I would propose someone who has authority of moderating people to send out a warning when a thread has to end (eg. when people start repeating themselves or insults become the main theme) and if necessary temporarily moderate these people/the thread. I think the mere existence of such a moderator could be sufficient to end lasting threads like the previous. new dell inspiron 2100 intel 915 mobile chipset

All. I just got my new 2100 from dell. Nice little box. PLugged my centos 4.1 in and went rather smooth. However, my X windows screen flickers. I noticed it did the vesa driver. SO I went out to intel and downloaded the mobile 915 for linux. Followed the install directions. and it spit a couple errors about not succeeding. Nothing useful in the text. My laptop is still in vesa mode. Has anyone trid to install Centos with the Intel mobile chip 915 or have any suggestions? Thanks, Jerry

ATI X550 chipset

Hi, I'm about to buy new video card, and was looking at ATI PCI-E Radeon X550. However, I don't see that particular chipset mentioned anywhere in docs. The X300 is there, as well as X600 and X800. Does anybody have Radeon X550 card running under CentOS 4? With 3D acceleration? heya, i'm a newbie to Linux itself and I've chosen CENTOS. It took me around 6 hours to find a CentOS4 cd..lol. I've got my server up and running now (but took me 4 whole days..lol again). Alright, I might need your help... so.. good luck y'all. lata

Integrating a Raid Driver

It appears that CentOS is having problems with my hard disks, which I have off of an HPT 374 Raid controller but with no Raid stripes created, ie. I am just using it as an IDE controller. There is the latest Linux open source for the HPT 374 on Highpoint's web site, which I have downladed. While I understand 'make' and am a programmer myself, I understand nothing about the Linux kernel or device drivers. My questions are: 1) How can I tell if and what support CentOS 4.1 and the 2.6 kernel has for the HPT 374 ? 2) How do I install the kernel source package and building tools as the instructions tell me to do ? 3) Anybody know what "cross-controller RAID" means ? There is a Make option for turning it on. 4) Once the driver is loaded by using 'insmod', is it automatically loaded each time I boot the system ? 5) Is there a good source, Internet or books, for these questions ? I do not feel great about fiddling with the kernel and drivers but CentOS 4.1 does not work well with my hard disks and I am hoping by updating the system it will again.

I actually tried the torrent files very first...faster download! I finally figured it out. I finally tried a new CD drive. It's working. Apparently, the old drive and drive I tried were both bad. It still doesn't make sense that it wouldn't work in the other system. I guess that will be another day, though! It provides a hash-check of the file as part of the transfer so you can be more certain that the download is correct. The other question is that your burner might be doing something weird. It is certainly very strange that the disks work fine in VMWare, but the rest of the clues point to a bad disk. Install Trouble

I've download the 4 CD ISO images from 3 different mirrors, tried burning the ISO's on different computers, and I still get the same errors. When I go to boot up with the CD1, I eventually get a Call Trace and then a kernel panic: not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt. It points to the CDROM or the CD itself. I can boot up with Knoppix and Mepis fine. The other odd thing is that these same CD's will boot up fine in VM Ware. The last odd thing is that I've got a system running CentOS. For grins and giggles, I booted up with the CD's on it and I got the same error. I do get the very first boot: screen where I hit <enter> after that, it bombs out after it detects and loads some other items. It never gets to the Check Media screen I can't tell if I'm dealing with a hardware problem or if it's a problem with the ISO's. Nothing makes sense! Any help is appreciated.

The role of /.autorelabel

I could not get vsftpd to start; kept getting the "vsftpd Dead Subsys Locked" error. On doing a Google search, I came across a fix (lost the site unfortunately) and as I recall, it has something to do with copying a file and having the incorrect SElinux settings (I have SElinux disabled). The fix was to do a fixfiles, relabel (commands that I have never used) or a touch of "/.autorelabel" and rebooting.
