Strangest thing (crond every 5 min.)

Hi, I've installed CentOS-4 4 days ago. Now, every 5 minutes, crond opens and close a root session, with no other info. Example: Apr 14 16:25:01 tux crond(pam_unix)[4031]: session opened for user root by (uid=0) Apr 14 16:25:02 tux crond(pam_unix)[4031]: session closed for user root Every five minutes the same thing. I have nothing in /etc/crontab that makes such a thing. Does anyone knows why is this happening and what is crond doing ? printer configuration crashes after Samsung install

Hi, I just installed the Samsung linux ML-1710 driver on my Centos 3.4 system. I was intending to drive a printer conneted to a windows xp machine, over the network. Now that I've done the install, the printer configuration applet crashes as soon as I try to launch it. Kernel Panic - not syncing: drivers -

I get a lot of these errors when running CentOS4. Kernel Panic - not syncing: drivers/ide/pci/pix.c:390 spin_lock (drivers/ide/ide.c:c306ad68) already locked by drivers/ide/ide- iops.c/1234. Must be something in the drivers or the kernel, it does not happen using 2.4.x kernels. Maybe some kind of a race condition? Anyone else see these? Gerald

Where to find the appropriate FastCGI package for CentOS 4.0

I have installed CentOS 4.0. I need FastCGI. I see mod_perl, but I need FastCGI. Can someone tell me where to find the appropriate package? The httpd version is 2.0.52-9 and Perl is 5.8.5. TIA, Vicki

tftp - getting connection refused

I did the following to setup the tftp server. Download tftp from ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/software/network/tftp/tftp-0.40.bz2 tar -jxvf tftp-0.40.bz2 cd tftp-0.40 make make install mkdir /tftpboot chmod 777 /tftpboot chown nobody:nobody /tftpboot changed /etc/xinetd.d/tftp file to "disable no" service xinetd restart Now when I connect I get in /var/log/messages "tftpd: read(ack): Connection refused" I even rebooted - get same message I did "iptables -f" - get the same message Any ideas why I cannot connect? seems to be running. I have not modified the hosts.deny or hosts.allow. they only have comments in the file. Kickstart

Does someone have an example mkisofs command with arguments to create a CD from the files on the CentOS CD? Since we are building servers, all the data is on CentOS4 CD1. I plan to modify it to include a kickstart file and remove some of the things on there that I don't need. I use something like this on the Cobalt Networks servers, need mods to work on CentOS. (following on one line) mkisofs -P Name -b boot/elterito.img -c boot/boot.catalog -R -I -L -o path-to-iso/name.iso . Now I am sure the boot references need to change. TIA for help ;) Gerald

We are using the Hp-Agents continuously on our Servers. The latest Version with centos-3.3 was no Problem. Mainly it depends on the used kernel Versions, because the raid driver modules are not for vanilla kernels, only for official Kernels from Redhat, Suse ... The only thing you have to do, is to fake the /etc/redhat-release, because the installer looks for supported Linux Versions. rpm problem with centos4

rpm-4.3.2 rpm-build-4.3.2-21 [root@tarkus i386]# rpm -ivh * error: Failed dependencies: compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3 is needed by opennms-1.3.0-0.20050413.0_centos4.i386 [root@tarkus i386]# rpm -q compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3 compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3 Any idea on how to deal with this?
