Samsung Contact, and Open exchange are two very capable alternatives that work natively with outlook,  i.e. outlook thinks it has an exchange server at the other end...

PREABMLE:  The fact that you have chosen Exchange 2000 means
you are _stuck_ with Active Directory Services (ADS).  Unless
you want to chuck Exchange, you are _stuck_ with keeping your
ADS.

Is there some reason you omitted SFU from this list?  Recently you
said it would work in a similar situation to act as an NIS server
with the Linux boxes as NIS clients.  And by the way, does anyone
know if there are any client license fees for the things provided
by SFU?
