On the off-chance you are using a Vista laptop to connect via the serial port, you can use putty (usually used as an SSH client) to connect. Hyperterminal was pulled from Vista.
I use putty for serial port access regularly.
Thanks for all the responses. I'll try the serial console. Wow, I've never expected there is such a server that is treated like some kind of appliance that doesn't need a normal server I/O. Thanks for the smitty password too, that's cool to know.
