Use 'mode=6' as the bonding option - doesn't need any special switch support.
There are other modes - look in Documentation/networking/bonding.txt (available in the kernel-sourcecode RPM)
mode=x is something I have not had a chance to experiment with. I have read the Documentation, but without actually testing each option I cannot decide what is the best for my situation. I would like to double my capacity as well as providing a failover so that if one link dies the other will still work.
