Hi,
The CentOS 4.4 installation doesn't work on a Optiplex 745 because it doesn't support the sata controller. Is there a known work-around?
what controller is it ?
It's the ICH8 intel chipset family.
It appears there is a "Legacy mode" (ATA).
The installer does work when I change the SATA operation to "Legacy mode" in the BIOS. (alltough a bit slow)
Having patched the machine to the latest kernel (2.6.9-42.0.8), the system still doesn't work in normal sata-mode.
(smaller prob: dvi video doesn't work at install time, vga only)
Something about 'video modes not supported'. I will try a 'nofb' install...
Note that sound is working, to my surprise (as sound is often the first to stop working on new intel chipsets)
If only we had CentOS 5 :-)
afaik, only a few people at RH might have that :) we'll all need to wait for it to release first.
Yes, off course. Rumours have it FC6 works on Optiplex 745. So I suppose CentOS 5 will also be working on those systems.
