Ubuntu hasn't been through a "hard" upgrade yet - like the Linux 2.4 ->2.6 change that older distros have done. It will be interesting to see if they can manage system-level stability while still staying current with applications.
Oh, a "hard" kernel upgrade should not be that much of a challenge. I want to see them going through a major GLIBC upgrade, like when we went from glibc 2.1 to 2.2. Or, even going back a bit more, when we went from libc5 to glibc. Now THAT was fun :)
