I'm trying to set the terminal size in /usr/share/vte/termcap/xterm, but it seems that CentOS doesn't look at this file.
Works for me (CentOS 4, opening "gnome-terminal").
What does "echo $TERM" output for you? If it does not output "xterm" that might be the reason why it does not work...

Hi Here is the output of $TERM
newt (Linux)$ echo $TERM xterm newt (Linux)$
I know this works in RHEL/CentOS 4.x and Fedora >10, but not in CentOS 5.x (I'm not sure about RHEL 5.x).
The question is if someone else has the same problem.
Thanks
Marcelo
