suggestion, use NUT instead, the Network UPS Tools.... works for all sorts of UPS's, not just APC, and supports a master/slave sort of network control of power management. here's the project site for an overview... http://networkupstools.org/
nut is in EPEL
I started looking at that last year... and could not find, in its documentation, how to set up almost all of what we have: APC rackmount UPSes with APC's weired RJ-45-toUSB cable. APCUPSd made that very easy, and was, in fact, the default configuration.
