APC is a module for PHP. So, if you see it with phpinfo(), it is ok with apache or lighttpd.
I only use it with apache, so, I can't tell you anymore :-/
You can read this link http://www.howtoforge.com/integrating-apc-into-php5-and-lighttpd-fedora9 with is about APC and lighttpd on Fedora.
My only question is how does lighttpd and APC play together? (Let's hope nicely)

I am wondering where I can get a repo that has xcache. (Or if anyone has any tips on a PHP optimizer)
Thanks
James
