The short answer that's worked for me: Add pcie_aspm=off to your boot-time kernel options. I've also started running the kmod-e1001e package from elrepo.org.
Er, kmod-e1000e.

hmm. the driver in the latest kernel seems much newer than the EPEL one you reference.
# modinfo e1000e filename: /lib/modules/2.6.32-431.11.2.el6.x86_64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko version: 2.3.2-k license: GPL description: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Driver author: Intel Corporation, linux.nics@intel.com srcversion: 563EA4FD2E6BC29211E792F
and, um....
# yum list *e1000* Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, security Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile * base: mirrors.loosefoot.com * epel: mirror.prgmr.com * extras: mirrors.cat.pdx.edu * updates: centos.sonn.com Error: No matching Packages to list
so now I'm lost.
