The NetApp people used to have one called 'postmark' that was good for measuring the speed of creating and deleting small files. I've lost track of it, but I think the last time I mentioned it someone said it was packaged for Debian and available in their repositories.
IIRC, postmark also suffered from the lack of use of fsync...yes, it does suffer from that:
