Is there any way around this? Do I need to erase xorg-x11-libs.i386 (and the gobs of packages that depend on it)?
You could always download xorg-x11-libs-6.8.2-1.EL.13.37.2 from one of the mirrors and do a rpm -Uvh --force and then run the yum command you were trying
