I could be wrong (it happens), but the best performance you are likely to get from a 100 Mbit/s link would be right around 10 MByte/s.
That is where the higer end network cards show why they are higer end ;-) On a rtl8139 I could get max 8mbps but on the same network with 3com card I could get 50mpbs!
Not very much a test matrix but eye opener all the same.
