Something is missing. It's probably something very simple. I still think you should let someone log in as root into your box and figure it out for you. :)
I would love this. However I don't know what my IP is nor how to find out. It's been too long and too much has changed.
Seriously?
ifconfig will tell you your IP address. Or just go to www.whatsmyip.org or some similar site...
Or, just reinstall :)
