And you adjusted the xorg.conf appropriately afterwards?

lsmod should show nvidia as a loaded module if X is running and the proprietary drivers are set up properly.

Well, I would if I knew what the heck I was doing - how do I adjust what? Or where do I look to find out how xorg.conf should be organized and adjusted, etc.

Not knowing this before, I foolishly failed to check the lsmod before I left the house, so I won't know until later.
