ldapsearch uid=*whatever* ?
ldapsearch was the command I was finding on oracles web page.
whereis ldap on my machine produced nothing.
yum provides ldapsearch produced nothing then I remembered I needed yum provides "*/ldapsearch" and found openldap-clients
