PREABMLE: The fact that you have chosen Exchange 2000 means you are _stuck_ with Active Directory Services (ADS). Unless you want to chuck Exchange, you are _stuck_ with keeping your ADS.
You use 'chosen' above as to suggest that there are equivalent alternatives. Are there - for an organization that lives and dies by the scheduling features and shared folders in exchange?
I can think of Groupwise being one that would be feature equivalent that has been available for some time. As far as open-source ones they all seem to have feature gaps.
