Is this a Horizontal/Vertical Sync Range issue? I have Viewsonic E733 monitor and am defining it as such in the config.
I am using system-config-display, which comes up just fine with X, but getting it to work after the config, it does not.
I'd just grab another card but this is a 2U server so dont have a low profile vga card on hand.

You could edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and change the it so that the video card driver is vesa:
Driver "vesa"
(that should give you up to 1024x768)
