Usually you build a .war file containing the application, drop it in the webapps directory, and access it at http://yourhost:8080/yourapp where yourapp is the name of the war file (yourapp.war). If you want it to appear as the default page for a site, you have to replace the ROOT.war file and the deployed webapps/ROOT/ directory.
