I took a look at the /proc listing and this is what is contained for both:
dr-xr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 . dr-xr-xr-x 101 root root 0 Mar 28 04:17 .. dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 attr -r-------- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 auxv -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 cmdline lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 cwd -r-------- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 environ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 exe dr-x------ 2 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 fd -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 loginuid -r-------- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 maps -rw------- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 mem -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 mounts lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 root -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 stat -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 statm -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 status dr-xr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 task -r--r--r-- 1 root root 0 Mar 29 11:58 wchan
Sorry if I'm being dense but I was just curious because this process shows up in only 1 of my 2 CentOS installs (both are at 4.3). This particular machine is a newer Dell P4 SC420 whereas the other machine is an older 440BX P3. So perhaps this is a benign daemon for all the newer hardware that's in the SC420 but I couldn't find any information about it (googling for "x 1 0" returns a ton of useless links) so I was hoping to get more info here on the mailing list.
Thanks.

Installed CentOS4 and was going through the process list and noticed

entry.
root 2440 2428 0 12:18 ? 00:00:00 x 1 0
What is it and why does it have such a mysterious entry?
More info at:
file:///proc/2440/
or file:///proc/2428/
:)
