You really shouldn't enable sendmail on the internet until
you understand the options well enough to keep it from
being an open relay.  And if you have windows boxes as
mail clients you should hook up some kind of virus
protection for them (mimedefang and clamav work nicely).
I've been administering sendmail and Unix boxen since about 1990, and since switching to Linux, I admit, I've learned a thing or 3, but sendmail is not *normally* (in configurations I've used) set to accept open relaying, and I for one hate that anyone would permit it.
