If it's a local user you want (with its fils on local system) why are you using the autofs facility? Isn't it just a matter of creating the user locally and make sure it resides in the local system's /etc/passwd file? Did you check /etc/nsswitch.conf to find out the order the databases are searched? What do you get when you do: getent passwd | grep test1
