Did you try SCL instead of directly installing packages from another repo? It is similar to how the new Appstreams allow multiple concurrent versions.

I'm waiting for blogs and "youtubs" to report on appstream and what I could install from Fedora maybe. I have more confidence in Fedora repos than epel, since the latter is usually rebuild Fedora packages anyway.
EPEL is a Fedora SIG project.
Yeah, I know, but I saw pretty much orphaned packages, made by people who do not use packaged software, nor CentOS.
