When I have installed centOS, Kudzu says my network cards have been removed, and right after it finds them again and asks me to configure them?
It looks like it is the same thing it finds that it just said was removed.
There are 3 Relatek|RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ cards in there and it is all of them it will remove and reconfigure.
It doesn't matter if I select ignore or reconfigure them, they still work after the reboot. It is just a little strange and seems a little buggy ;)
brgds Ulrik ------- Hello
I have the same problem. I move lan card into another slot (pci) and now everything work fine.

Denis,
You wrote:

Maybe you have me confused with someone else.
I did not write or imply that nVIDIA cards never work. Rather, I wrote that they may not work. By this, I meant that they do not work with some monitors.
I checked what I wrote, and I believe the above paragraph is correct. If you disagree with me and stand by your statement, please refer me to the sentence(s) that I wrote that back you up.
In addition to me, two people have written to the group recently about the nVIDIA problem. They can vouch for the fact that there is sometimes a problem.
I agree that nVIDIA cards work for many people (including for me, which I also wrote). But the fact that they work for many people does not solve the problem when one does not work with a specific monitor.
This topic is near and dear to my heart, as I first encountered the problem when I was trying to install CentOS on machine with an nVIDIA card and using a monitor with which nVIDIA cards do not work (my Mag DX1495). At the beginning, I did not know that the card was the problem, I only knew that the screen went blank toward the end of the install. In addition to trying to solve the problem by tweeking the XF86Config file (boy, was that futile!), it literally took me hours of parts swapping, distribution swapping, and OS swapping (trying Windows too), to finally figure out that the nVIDIA card was the problem. (Some might say that the card/monitor combination was the problem, but Windows has no problem with the combination.)
Maybe my frustration with nVIDIA cards shows, and as a result, my emails on this topic are easily misinterpreted.

Rick,
Because the nVIDIA does not work for you doesn't
mean it does not
work..
I have been using the nVIDIA driver since i
installed pre 3.1(the
beta's) and have not had any issues...so please....
do not state that
is does not work...it does. You may have problems on
your side...but you
can't generalise and say that it does not work.
Take a poll and see
how many people have it working.

Nat'd IP - ports 80, 20, 21 already opened & routed to internal ip.
I desperately need the quick & dirty solution.
I need a setup where one user can ftp from another desktop (windows) to upload new website files. I currently have CuteFTP, but will use anything needed at this point.
I need to try to test this today. VERY new to linux, I am completely bogged down trying to learn command-line syntax.
Thanks in advance, Beth

Sorry if this is off topic, but the cpan mail list seems quite ded, and I was wondering if any of you have had the same problem.
when ever I do a perl -MCPAN -e "install Bundle::CPAN"
I get this error: ---------------------------------- Net::Telnet is up to date. Net::Cmd is up to date. Bundle summary: The following items in bundle Bundle::libnet had installation problems: Data::Dumper Term::ReadKey is up to date. Term::ReadLine::Perl is up to date. CPAN is up to date. Bundle summary: The following items in bundle Bundle::CPAN had installation problems: Digest::MD5 Bundle::libnet and the following items had problems during recursive bundle calls: Data::Dumper ----------------------------------
I have done it on my redhat9 and centos-3.3 box and both gave same error? Anybody out there have a solution ?

Beth:
I use pure-ftpd. I've found this ftp server to be the easiest and most secure to set-up for Redhat systems. Go to:
The Redhat binary (rpm) version can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.pureftpd.org/pub/pure-ftpd/releases/binaries/redhat/
You'll probably want the "i686" version.
Install the rpm package (you'll need to be root to do this):
# rpm -Uvh pure-ftpd-1.0.19-1.i686.rpm
And that's it.

Port 20 outgoing, you mean? Shouldn't need to be any connections *to* port 20 on the FTP server.
I desperately need the quick & dirty solution.

First of all, make sure the vsftpd package is installed and running. (rpm -q vsftpd)
If it's not, it'll be on your install media or can easily be acquired with "yum -y install vsftpd"
Then do "service vsftpd start" to start the FTP server.
Are you just trying to prove the concept today, or do you need your user to be able to upload files to the document root right now?
If the former, simply create a new user account and set a password for it. The vsftpd server will immediately allow logins to the users' home directory with their username/password. Any files placed in public_html/ in a home directory should be automatically mapped by apache to httpd://[server.dom.ain]/~[userid]/. If you need to upload files directly to the document root, things get a little more complicated, and there's more than one approach depending on how security-conscious you need to be.
