. chkconfig --- a command line utility that allows you to turn services on and off for the different runlevels. Non-xinetd services can not be started, stopped, or restarted using this utility. You may nd that these tools are easier to use than the alternatives --- editing the numerous symbolic links located in the directories below /etc/rc.d by hand or editing the xinetd conguration les in /etc/xinetd.d. ?

How do I disable the update agent in the upper right corner on centos 5?
I> am looking for a command line way to do this. I know I can right click on it and select quit.
THanks,
Jerry
Fred,
Thanks, I was familiar with chkconfig and I looked there. After I right clicked and and selected QUIT on the GUI for the update icon I looked in /etc/init.d and the only thing there that looks pertinant is yum-updatesd However, again after I elected to GUI the GUI icon for updates (so its gone) a ps ax | grep yum still showed the yum-updatesd process running.
Is this the same process I a interested in? I was just wanting to confirm before I go shutting off "chkconfig yum-updatesd off"
THanks,
Jerry
