what is the jmicron bug ?

I have a couple of boards with jmicron stuff in ahci mode, and they are working fine with 4.4's latest kernel. The last comment on the thread seems to indicate that as well.
that would mean I couldn't hook up a ide drive right?
I guess I could get a usb drive and get data from there to the sata disk.
