While I don't use my Owncloud for mail, only used as a cloud storage, I have however used Evolution. In that context Evolution with CentOS sucks. It's just plain ugly and not a bit intuitive IMHO.
With a minimal GNOME desktop installed (no Evolution, no Thunderbird), the system menu shows the clock in the upper right corner of the screen. When you click on that, you get a little overview window sporting a calendar on the left side and an (empty) list of appointments on the right side. Unfortunately that preview window seems to be preconfigured for Evolution only, so I wonder if there's any way to get rid of it.
