How about using the yum groupinstall/grouplist stuff? If you use 'yum grouplist' you'll see a couple of groups that might be of interest: KDE (K Desktop Environment) KDE Software Development I am presuming you would want the first of the two, so you would use something like:
yum groupinstall "KDE (K Desktop Environment)"
On my system it picked up 11 different packages to install:
