It only appears to happen when I reply to an email on a mailing list. With normal email, person-to-person email, that never happens. I don't really understand it. It looks like the references header is being appended to the Subject, perhaps the headers are being reordered poorly or something.

I'm using Thunderbird 1.0 also, and it's not happening when I respond to the mailing list. It could be that your headers are getting messed up by whatever is massaging your inbound email.
