That can be fixed by running "yum clean all" on the command line.
As a result, /usr/share/gdm/themes/TreeFlower/background.png is missing, and so I get an error message about it and the "default" login screen. Of course, I don't know what else is missing (for example, those gcc packages...).
Install yum-utils (after you fixed yum, see above) and use yum-complete-transaction, which should finish transactions which haven't been run completely.
