I use the Qlogic script (Dynamic Target and LUN Discovery http://support.qlogic.com/support/EULATemplate/Template.aspx?TemplateID=9&path=http://download.qlogic.com/ms/56614/ql-dynamic-tgt-lun-disc-2.2.tgz 2.2) to scan for new luns.
As already said, the rdac driver/userspace tool contains a hot_add script that takes care of that .. but i admit that i've not yet updated those machines to 5.1 because of a need to rebuild the rdac kmod ...
Has anyone had any issues with scanning for new devices off san after upgrading to 5.1 ?

Sorry, forgot to mention i got a IBM SVC as a storage device. IBM recommends using device-mapper-multipath for RHEL 5. There is not SDD (propriatory IBM driver for the ESS, DS6000/DS8000, SVC devices) for RHEL 5.
