I have a 4-port promise SATA card that seems OK but I haven't really used it that much.
Same here. I installed a Promise 4-port SATA300 TX4 in an older machine that does not have on board SATA and set up software RAID1 with 2 500GB drives. The other 2 ports are for future expansion.
